- - - How do I pick a location? - - -

I am an on-location, natural light photographer, so I use outdoor lighting in outdoor settings as much as possible and I have more than a decade of experience reading light. Location is one of the most important things to choose for your photo shoot, it really enhances your personality and the atmosphere of the shoot. I usually suggest a few locations for my clients to pick from based on what you have in mind, such as nature, traditional, urban, etc.

- - - Do you have a studio? - - -

Yes I do but only for Christmas photo events and kimono shoots only. I specialise in outdoor photography and indoor location photography. I also offer home visits.

REMINDER: YOUR BOOKING CAN NOT BE CONFIRMED WITHOUT A DEPOSIT PAYMENT

AFTER BOOKING

THANK YOU FOR BOOKING YOUR PHOTO SESSION!

- - - DAY OF THE SHOOT - - -

1. Please meet me at the selected location at the scheduled time.

2. PLEASE BE ON TIME, arriving at least 10 mins before the shoot. There will be NO complimentary time extensions for late arrivals. If you plan to bring a stroller/pram, please note that elevator exits from metro stations are complex and can delay travel significantly. If you are coming by car, parking might be full so please do allow more time.

3. Please try to MINIMISE THE NUMBER OF LARGE BAGS!!! since we will be moving around. There are lockers you can use at some parks and metro stations. Shinjuku Gyoen has lockers inside gates.

4. Please make sure to bring the remaining balance in cash on the day of the shoot. The session will not start without payment.

5. After we meet, we will go over any special photo requests or needs you have, and then get shooting.

6. We will do lots of different poses, backgrounds, and walk around our location to get new perspectives. I try to keep things relaxed, talk about you and your family, and try not to make it all about posing or stiff smiles. I like to capture the candid moments just as much as the smiling-at-the-camera moments. I’m always happy to accommodate any fun posing ideas you have, or any props you’d like to incorporate.

7. At the end of the session, I’ll answer any last questions and then we’re all finished!

Please do not take photos on your phone during the session and make sure to take off your smart watch.

- - - What if my location has an admission fee? - - -

Please cover my admission fee.

- - - What if it rains? - - -

If I decide that the weather is unsuitable then we can reschedule at no additional cost. I have done family shoots in the snow, drizzle and cold before and taken some beautiful photos, so don’t despair if it’s not super warm and sunny! An overcast day is actually the most flattering light to shoot in that makes your skin look so smooth and beautiful. However, I understand the difficulty to keep the little ones happy in the rain so I will be happy to reschedule in case of rain.

- - - What if someone is sick on the day of the shoot? Can I reschedule? - - -

I might be able to reschedule your session to another date at no extra cost, please try and give me as much notice as possible. I may refuse to start the session if any family members show any symptoms of illness (fever, coughing, etc…). Please note if the session has to be rescheduled for the second time, a 5.000 yen re-booking fee will be applied.

- - - Is transport or walking during the shoot included in the session time? - - -

Yes. If you choose two or more locations, the transportation time is included in the session time.

- - - I need to cancel my session. What should I do? - - -

Please note that I ask for a deposit to secure your session and that deposit will not be refunded. It may be carried forward to future shoots if you cancel with reason such as sickness. I often receive multiple requests for the same day/time, so I have likely refused other session requests for this day/time. Thank you for your understanding.

- - - How will we know how to pose? - - -

My approach is to capture more “natural/genuine” shots between you and your family. If you want to be positioned in a certain way, I’ll be more than happy to direct you or (as I prefer) to show you how you should be. If I have to come into your personal space to help you or your guests, I will ask your permission first. You should make sure you are relaxed and comfortable (if you aren't, it will definitely come across in the pictures). Most importantly, have fun!

Please keep the weather in mind. If it is hot, you may want to bring a water bottle, if it's cold, maybe a jacket between shots.

It can be really windy so please don’t forget hair pins, hair ties, etc… especially if your child has long hair. Please make sure that the hair won’t be covering their faces.

Please feel free to bring any props that you find fun.

If you are planning a clothing change, please remember that the changing room might not be available and you might have to change in your car or a nearby bathroom.

- - - Is it possible not to post our photos in Social Media? - - -

I’m so sorry but I may be sharing a few photos on Social Media to promote my business.

- - - When will we receive our photos? - - -

Usually within 7days

As soon as your session is over, I transfer your photos onto my computer with double backup, and begin editing. I provide high resolution digital files in Jpeg format, in exactly the style you see on my website. In order to protect my style, I do not provide RAW images.

- - - What about copyright and ownership of materials? - - -

The entire copyright, title, and intellectual property rights of any Images will remain that of the photographer at all times throughout the world. Photos may be used to promote my business in advertising, brochures, magazine articles, websites, sample albums etc. Photographs taken during the session will be at the discretion of the photographer although every effort will be made to comply with client requests.

- - - Tips for small children - - -

If you have young children, feel free to bring anything that will keep them happy (e.g. snacks, juice, favourite toy, etc.). A baby or picnic blanket to avoid grass stains. A favourite toy for me to hold to keep baby/kids attention. Ideally something that makes loud noise.

If you have a toddler who doesn’t like to stay still at all, please bring a snack that you can give (during the session, please keep the bag in your hand and don’t hand the whole bag of snack to your child, otherwise the bag will be in every picture).

- - - Will you retouch my photos? - - -

All of the photos have already been edited in my signature style and I will not change my style on request.

Removing things in the background can be done for free of charge, however, if it is more than 3 photos I will be charging an additional fee of 1500 yen per image. If you have any conditions due to medical reasons such as scars from a surgery, I can remove them for free of charge. Any other requests will be charged accordingly per image.

Examples include fixing yellow or damaged teeth in a smile, minimizing acne or scars, "Swapping out" a feature from another picture, such as when everyone in the group has their eyes open except for one person, removing grey hair, softening the bags under eyes and wrinkles, making your skin look healthier, enhancing face shapes, waist lines, upper arms, and other body parts, removing distractions such as strangers in the background, dirty floor, etc…

- - - Are there any other terms and conditions? - - -

I will do my best to honour the requested photographs but do not undertake to guarantee any specific picture nor incorporate any specific background, location or group arrangements due to changes in weather and the availability and willingness of subjects. Due to a variety of lighting conditions and the limitations of digital sensors, some colours may alter throughout a set of photographs. Although all equipment is checked regularly and reasonable steps are taken to ensure backup equipment is available, the photographer will not be responsible for photographs that are not produced due to technical failure.

- - - What do I wear? - - -

When deciding what to wear, especially with a group of people (such as family shoots or couples) it is helpful to stick to the same families of colors to have a cohesive look across the photo. Warm colors consist of yellows, reds, and oranges – basically the colors of a sunset (think warm sun across your face). Cools are blues, greens, and purples (like a chilly forest on a mountain).

I encourage people to avoid wearing all blacks or any dark colours during the Sakura shoots since pastel colours photograph better. If you are going to wear a cute black dress, throw in a bright green scarf or deep red lipstick to add some colors.

I recommend same colors as the flowers (During Spring SAKURA - White, Pink and Pale Blue, Pale Green, Pale Yellow etc…) (During Fall KOYO - Red, Yellow, Orange, Green, etc…) when they are in season. Muted, softer colors flow the best between the subject and the background for the city shoots (think sea-foam green, mustard yellow, maroon, etc...).

For girls and ladies, LONG dresses and LONG skirts that can flow makes beautiful images.

For the summer/spring shoots, dresses or skirts and for the fall/winter tights and cool coats photograph well. For boys and men, summer/spring jeans or khaki and for the fall/winter darker pants, fancy shirts, etc…

Recommendations:

1. The best thing you can do is coordinate around a general color scheme, and then mix and match with different types of fabric, prints, patterns, solids, and accents.

I recommend you to stick to the same camp of colors (warms or cools), or choose three colors next to each other along the color wheel (like blue, green, and yellow). However, avoid being too matchy-matchy as it draws too much attention to the outfit and not enough attention to the subjects (you and your gorgeous family!).

2. Also avoid prominent LOGOS.

3. Patterns can add a nice contrast and pop to a photo, but stick to one or two people with a pattern, too many patterns run the risk of visual overload.

4. Don’t forget the SHOES! They will almost definitely show in some photos, so make sure they are nice and go with the outfits. However, for park photos, we are often at outside playing and running as well so please do bring some comfy shoes as well if you will be wearing high heels.

I strive to make your experience with Fleur and Honey Photography as easy as possible, and if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me. I am happy to help.
